BOSTON — Travis Shaw is getting a breather.

The Red Sox third baseman is sitting for the first time this season Tuesday against the Colorado Rockies. He’s also dealing with some minor left hand soreness, but Red Sox manager John Farrell said before the game the day off is more routine than anything.

“Today’s (Shaw’s) first day off since last September,” Farrell said. “So I thought it was a good spot for him against a left-handed starter. … He’s been jammed a couple of times, so the webbing in that left hand between the thumb and the index finger has got a little bit of soreness. I fully expect him to be in the lineup (Wednesday).”

Josh Rutledge will start at third in Shaw’s stead and bat eighth. Chris Young also remains in left field with Brock Holt still in Pittsburgh undergoing concussion tests, and he’ll bat sixth.

David Price is on the mound for Boston, and he’ll be looking to build off two straight quality starts. The left-hander is coming off an outing during which he allowed two runs on five hits over 7 1/3 innings in a win against the Kansas City Royals.

Here are the Red Sox’s and Rockies’ lineups for Tuesday’s game.
