BOSTON — The Pesky Pole, Fenway Park’s right field foul pole, has made for some strange home runs, but it’s safe to say none were as unusual as what David Ortiz did Thursday.

The Red Sox slugger was taking batting practice before Boston’s game against the Minnesota Twins, so, of course, he knocked a few baseballs out of the yard. However, one of them apparently wasn’t ready to leave.

Needless to say, a baseball has to be hit pretty darn hard for that to happen. And Ortiz himself agreed.

“You’re only going to see a bad (expletive) like me doing that,” Ortiz said, per Masslive.com’s Jen McCaffrey. “You have to hit the (expletive) out of the ball for that (expletive) to happen.”

The Red Sox eventually used a ladder to remove the ball from the pole before the game.
