Pirates’ Josh Harrison Beats Brewers With Walk-Off Little League Home Run

Josh Harrison ended a wild game in unconventional fashion Tuesday night in Pittsburgh.

With the Pirates trailing the Milwaukee Brewers by one run in the bottom of the ninth, Harrison lifted a fly ball to the deepest reaches of right-center field. He missed a home run by a matter of feet but rounded second base at a full sprint, his sights on triple that would have put the winning run on third with nobody out.

As Harrison screamed toward third, Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett received the relay from the outfield and fired the ball toward third baseman Hernan Perez. It never reached its target.

Gennett’s throw bounced well short of the bag, skipped past Perez and ended up in the stands, giving Harrison a Little League home run (technically a triple with a throwing error) and the Pirates a 3-2 walk-off win.

Though he was unable to gather Gennett’s errant toss, Perez was at the heart of the action throughout the night. He drove in both Milwaukee runs — including one in the top of the ninth — and also smoked a line drive that drilled Pirates starter Jameson Taillon in the head.

Stunningly, Taillon remained in the game, allowing only one run on five hits over six innings en route to a no-decision.
