Richard Sherman reportedly is staying on the West Coast.

The free-agent cornerback agreed to a three-year deal Saturday with the San Francisco 49ers according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Insider Ian Rapoport. The deal will pay Sherman $39 million, with the chance for the 29-year-old to earn more through incentives.

Sherman was cut Friday by the Seattle Seahawks — who he had played for over the entirety of his seven-year career — on Friday, and immediately was linked with a number of teams, the New England Patriots among them.

Sherman, who will be 30 at the end of March, played just nine games last season, missed the final seven games of the season with Achilles injury. Prior to that, though, he had never missed a game. Speculation over his effectiveness because of the injury ultimately resulted in Sherman silencing doubters with an Instagram post Friday.

Among the best corners in the game, Sherman is a four-time Pro Bowl selection, while earning All-Pro nods three times.

The 49ers finished last season 6-10, but won their final five games after quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo took over. Following the season, the Niners inked Garoppolo to a five-year deal.

And with the Los Angeles Rams reportedly acquiring Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib, there will be quite the competition for best secondary in the NFC West.
