The New England Patriots need to select a tight end in the upcoming 2014 NFL draft, even if they add a veteran before May 8.
The Patriots reportedly hosted former New York Jets and Miami Dolphins tight end Dustin Keller on a free-agent visit on Wednesday, but they still need to add youth and depth at the position. Starter Rob Gronkowski might not be ready to start the 2014 season, and Keller has missed the last season and a half with knee, groin and ankle injuries.
On this week’s NESN.com Patriots Podcast, beat writer Doug Kyed and MassLive.com’s Nick Underhill discuss how Keller could help the Patriots and which tight end prospects are the best fit for New England. They also talk about the Patriots’ need for a safety in the upcoming draft. Then Vanderbilt safety and projected fourth- or fifth-round draft pick Kenny Ladler joins the show to talk about his recent meeting with Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.
