Dear Mark Cuban: Thank you.
Basketball observers got to witness ESPN First Take‘s Skip Bayless get schooled on his own show by Cuban on Friday. The Dallas Mavericks owner ripped into sportswriters’ tendency to focus too often on generalities — something even this writer occasionally is guilty of — but reserved his most pointed remarks for Bayless’ own inanity about LeBron James “wanting it more” this year, or “not wanting it more” last year, or whatever James was supposedly doing.
“Miami ‘wanted it more’ [Thursday],” Cuban said. “That is such horse you-know-what. It’s not that Oklahoma City didn’t want it more. I think Miami was better prepared to play the game than Oklahoma City in terms of adjustments and changes. Now, if you want to start talking about double-teams and how they should be used, whether they should have played zone or if the right defensive structure was in place, that’s a valid conversation. But just saying, ‘They wanted it more,’ that’s ridiculous.”
