The Pirates are reportedly in the market for a corner infielder, and it appears one member of the Red Sox is on their radar.
The Pirates have inquired about the availability of Kevin Youkilis, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.
There's no indication that the Sox are looking to deal the veteran infielder, but with Will Middlebrooks performing well since being called up, manager Bobby Valentine will face a bit of a logjam once the team's outfielders get healthy.
Adrian Gonzalez has seen time in right field recently in order to accomodate both Youkilis and Middlebrooks, but when Jacoby Ellsbury, Carl Crawford and Cody Ross get healthy, the outfield situation appears to be squared away. That means Valentine will need to get even more creative than he already has been when it comes to filling out the lineup card.
Youkilis, who spent some time on the disabled list this season, is hitting .231 with four home runs and 13 RBIs in 35 games.
