Come 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Josh Beckett is expected to remain in a Red Sox uniform.
The team will not trade Beckett before the trade deadline, according to ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes, citing a team source. That source also indicated that while the Red Sox "fielded numerous inquiries" about Jacoby Ellsbury, they have also decided not to deal their center fielder.
Rumors had connected Beckett and a couple other teams in recent days, but Beckett dismissed the rumors and indicated his desire to remain with the Sox. Ellsbury, meanwhile, is still under contract through 2013, and the Red Sox likely wouldn't consider dealing last season's MVP runner-up unless they were to decide they wouldn't contend this year or next.
Beckett is scheduled to start on Tuesday night, and barring a trade, should do just that in the hopes of helping the Red Sox win their fourth game in a row.
