Bit by bit, the New York Knicks' Facebook page has been hinting at a change.
Gradually, the Knicks jersey in the banner photo has been peeling away, revealing a jersey that looks similar but appears to have one slight difference: There does not appear to be any black trim involved.
The social media campaign is part of the Knicks' plan to unveil their new jerseys Thursday, and a sneak peek on Wednesday's Live! With Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan also seemed to reveal no black. A close look at the Facebook images shows what looks like light gray in place of the black that was introduced in 1997.
During the phase of the 1990s when every team decided it had to implement either black or teal into its color scheme, the Knicks wisely decided teal would look terrible with blue and orange but unwisely decided black would be OK. The broad black stripes gradually have become thinner over the years, and if they go away for good, it would be welcome news for most Knicks fans.
Check out the evolution of the photo from the Knicks' Facebook page in the images below.
