NFL owners approved a $200 million loan for the Falcons to build a new stadium on Tuesday in Boston, according to The Associated Press. The Falcons expect design and construction of the new facility to take four years and expect the stadium to open for the 2017 season.
The multipurpose stadium could cost as much as $1 billion to build. Owner Arthur Blank will pay for most of the facility, with $200 million coming from public funds.
One of the stadium concepts had “impact seating,” large IMAX screens and a fantasy football lounge. The Georgia Dome, which opened in 1992, would be demolished after the new stadium is completed.
