The Red Sox made it official Friday. Boston has gone from worst to first.
The Red Sox, who went 69-93 while finishing in last place in 2012, clinched their first American League East title since 2007 with a 6-3 victory over the Blue Jays on Friday night at Fenway Park. Jon Lester went seven strong innings, and Koji Uehara recorded a five-out save to nail down the win.
Uehara struck out Brett Lawrie to end the ballgame, setting off a massive celebration in front of the hometown crowd. The AL East crown marks Boston’s seventh division title since the start of divisional play in 1969.
