Philippe Coutinho: Liverpool Must Reproduce Best Performances During Run-In

Daniel Sturridge, Luis Suarez, Jordan Henderson, Philippe Coutinho and Jon FlanaganPhilippe Coutinho insists Liverpool’s recent Anfield displays against Everton and Arsenal have set the benchmark for the team to try to emulate over the remainder of the campaign, as it tries to secure a successful finale to 2013-14.

The Reds swept both the Blues and the Gunners aside in their last two games on home soil, winning 4-0 and 5-1, respectively, to bolster their push for a top-four finish.

Swansea City is next up for Brendan Rodgers’ men, as they enter the last dozen games of the season — and they must match those recent standards once more, according to Coutinho.

“We’ve reached the moment when we have to be fully concentrated and alert in all matches,” he told Liverpoolfc.com.

“The matches against Arsenal and Everton must be our reference so we can keep it up in all matches and sustain the same level until the very end.

“We want to be back in the [UEFA] Champions League and to be in contention for the title. The league is very difficult as it has big clubs. There’s massive competition in the league here. All matches are very difficult.

“We’re in a fairly good position at the moment, but there are 12 matches to be played. There’s still much to happen, and we’re hoping to keep up on this path.”

Liverpool will aim for a return to winning ways when the Swans come to town following last weekend’s narrow FA Cup fifth-round defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates.

The Reds could consider themselves unfortunate to have been eliminated from the competition, and Coutinho maintains that confidence within the squad hasn’t been dented.

“It’s very important that the team go on to the pitch expecting to win and trying our best to get three points,” the Brazilian said. “It’s going to be important both for the home and away games.

“We’re in full preparation every week, and it won’t be different this week. We’re trying to have a good week at training, and we expect to have a good match at the weekend with the support of the fans, who have been really impressive in recent matches at home.”
