FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots couldn’t go two days before suffering their first on-field injury of training camp.
Newly re-signed wide receiver Greg Orton was carted off the field after suffering a non-contact lower body injury. Orton was signed by the Patriots on Wednesday after being released on May 22.
Orton’s fellow wide receivers, including Danny Amendola and Kenbrell Thompkins, went over to Orton when he was still on the turf to console him.
Rookie cornerback Jemea Thomas and offensive lineman Chris Martin were the only players not spotted at Patriots practice. Wide receivers Aaron Dobson, Matthew Slater and Jeremy Gallon, defensive tackles Dominique Easley and Tommy Kelly, cornerback Alfonzo Dennard and linebacker Deontae Skinner were spotted at practice, but they did not participate and were not in uniform.
Tight end Rob Gronkowski participated in individual drills for the second consecutive day, but he sat out when the team went to 7-on-7s and 11-on-11s.
