INDIANAPOLIS — After years of blanketing wide receivers, Darrelle Revis has a pretty good idea of when a target is going to come his way.

The New England Patriots cornerback didn’t show it, but he was surprised that Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck threw his way in the second quarter with lockdown coverage on wide receiver Reggie Wayne. Revis tipped the pass, and Patriots safety Devin McCourty snagged an interception.

“Reggie was in the slot. He ran a 10- or 12-yard in route,” Revis recalled Sunday night after the Patriots’ 42-20 win. “I didn’t expect the ball to come. I did have pretty good coverage, but Andrew tried to stick it in there, and I stuck my hand in there, and Dev was right there, and he caught it, and he was kind of like, surprised. I’m like ‘run!’ Telling him to run. It was a great play. Me trying to put my hand in there, stick it in there, and it was a great play on Dev to focus in and catch the ball.”

It was a throw that Luck undoubtedly would like to take back. Wayne wasn’t his first read, and the third-year pro threw off his back foot to Wayne with Revis hanging off the 14-year veteran’s back. Revis allowed just one catch on six targets for five yards to Luck while covering Wayne and T.Y. Hilton.
