When TCU’s LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for an eye-popping 406 yards on Nov. 20, 1999, it seemed unlikely that anyone would come close to matching his total.
Except Melvin Gordon did. In three quarters.
The Wisconsin running back racked up 408 rushing yards on just 25 carries in three quarters against Nebraska on Saturday, breaking Tomlinson’s record for the most rushing yards in a single game in FBS history.
His record-breaking run came on the last play of the third quarter, a 26-yard scamper for his fourth touchdown of the game.

Gordon was a human highlight reel Saturday. His first score of the game came on a 62-yard sprint down the sideline after he hurdled a helpless Nebraska defender.
Gordon would not get to add to his total, as the Heisman contender sat out the fourth quarter in a 59-24 blowout win over the No. 16 Cornhuskers. The No. 20 Badgers finished the game with 583 total rushing yards.
Tomlinson didn’t seem too upset to see his record fall. He hopped on Twitter on Saturday night to congratulate Gordon.

Gordon’s insane day has him atop the NCAA rushing leaders. He’s now rushed for 1,909 yards on the season, almost 300 yards more than the second-place rusher, Indiana’s Tevin Coleman.
