Phil Jackson has an issue with just about everyone these days.
The New York Knicks president is trying to rebuild that once-proud franchise as the team president. The early results are mixed, but Jackson’s vaunted triangle offense has been a hot-button topic.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver recently gave his thoughts on the Knicks’ progress, specifically as it pertains to the offensive system.
“Clearly they’re still learning the triangle,” Silver said, according to the New York Daily News, eventually adding, “I still don’t understand it.”
Silver’s comments come at the same time longtime filmmaker and Knicks fan Spike Lee is in the midst of making a documentary about the triangle. Jackson, who had strong words about Lee’s project, also didn’t take too kindly to the commissioner’s seemingly innocent comments.
“It was fun to have Spike (Lee) do the little (MSG documentary on the triangle), have a humorous part in it, but I wasn’t so humored by the commissioner actually jumping in on top of that,” Jackson recently whined, according to the New York Daily News. “He doesn’t need to get in on that. There’s enough focus on the triangle. It’s not anything. It’s a system. It’s simple basketball. Just play the game. So we’re over the triangle. Let’s get to business and play it the right way.”
On the court, the Knicks certainly have struggled so far this season. New York is just 2-6 after losing to the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night. The Knicks also currently rank dead last in the NBA with 91.1 points per game.
