Paul Pierce has plenty of NBA experience. Twitter experience? Not so much.

The Internet found that out in hilarious fashion Wednesday night in the midst of the ridiculous battle between the Los Angeles Clippers and Dallas Mavericks for the services of big man DeAndre Jordan.

Reports that Jordan was having second thoughts about signing his agreed-upon contract with the Mavs sparked a race between both teams to make their pitch to the 26-year-old. Since this is 2015, this race quickly turned into a Twitter emoji battle, as seen in the example below.

The ever-keen Pierce, seeing all the youngsters take the spotlight with their hip emojis, decided to join the party. Here’s how that went.

Sorry, Paul. That’s a picture of an emoji, not an actual emoji. Get ’em next time.

The 37-year-old kept barging ahead, though, sending out another picture of an emoji — is this even a real emoji? — after his Clippers finally landed Jordan.

We can rag on Pierce’s Twitter game all we want (here are some more gems from his timeline) but he did play a key role in convincing Jordan to stay in L.A. The former Boston Celtic joined coach Doc Rivers and several Clippers players at Jordan’s home in the final push that resulted in the big man finally inking a contract.

To top it all off, Pierce capped the night with a grade-A tweet.
