The long road back to the Red Sox for Daisuke Matsuzaka will finally be taking a trip to the top of a mound this week. It won't be in game action, but it's a step in the right direction.

Matsuzaka will throw 40 pitches in a bullpen session on Monday and will throw 50 pitches on Friday and 65 pitches the following Monday, WEEI.com reports.

The 28-year-old has been on the disabled list since late June with a sore throwing arm. He was 1-5 with an 8.23 ERA before heading to the DL.
