Martinez Shines in Texas Spotlight After Clay Buchholz was tagged out at the plate (yes, you read that correctly), the wind was taken right out of the Red Sox’ sails.

What looked to be a game-winning hit didn’t even score a run, and the Red Sox were down to their final out.

Victor Martinez stepped in, facing closer Frank Francisco with first base open.

Martinez told NESN’s Heidi Watney after the game that he didn’t know if they were going to walk him or pitch to him.

“When they decided to pitch to me, I was like, ‘Let me take the first pitch to see what they want to try to do,'” he said. “And then they threw me a fastball right down the middle, and I was like, ‘Oh.'”

Martinez then made a lot of people say “Oh!” as he capped off a nine-pitch at-bat with a two-RBI double down the right-field line.
