Nick Caserio Says Patriots Have Discussed Potential Trades With Some Teams The NFL trading deadline has generated a bit more hype league-wide this year — a fact that will probably only result in boredom and disappointment.

But Nick Caserio, the Patriots' director of player personnel, at least provided some hope for Patriots fans looking for some excitement before Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline.

"I’d say at this point we’ve had different discussions at different points," Caserio said Monday in a conference call. "Spoke with a few teams last week. Some teams have called us, so I would say for this time of the year the conversations have been somewhat normal."

The Patriots were rumored to be involved in discussions with the Ravens for wide receiver Joey Galloway, while big names like Shawne Merriman and Terrell Owens have been tossed around the rumor mill in the league.

The team cut linebacker Tully Banta-Cain on Monday, raising some eyebrows and giving reason to believe the team may be manipulating its roster for an impending move.

Caserio wouldn't say that a deal is unlikely for the Patriots.

"I think it depends," he said. "I think you have to find if there’s a player on another club, you have to see if you can agree to some terms. There’re a variety of moving parts and I think it depends on the situation and I think you sort of take it as it comes and if there’s something that we feel makes sense, then we’ll look to consider it – whether it’s a trade deadline or whether it’s signing players off the street who haven’t been with a club."
