FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — New England Patriots left tackle Matt Light walked through the team’s shower area on crutches Monday afternoon, a day after he hurt his right knee in a 20-17 overtime loss to the Denver Broncos.

Light wasn’t putting any weight on his right leg. He was wearing shorts and sandals, and there was no brace or leg wrap visible.

Patriots center Dan Koppen fell into Light’s right knee during the first play of Sunday’s fourth quarter. Light stayed on the ground for a few minutes before walking gingerly to the sideline and exiting to the locker room. He didn’t return to the game and was replaced by rookie Sebastian Vollmer, a second-round draft pick from Houston.

“I think [Vollmer] did a good job,” Patriots running back Sammy Morris said. “He’s a tough kid, really plays hard. I think he obviously still has some things he needs to work on as a rookie, but that’s part of developing as a pro.”

Light, a 2007 First Team All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowler, has started 59 consecutive games for the Patriots, including six postseason contests. He missed 13 games in 2005 with an ankle injury. Before that, Light had started 66 consecutive games, including nine playoff contests.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick would not offer any updates on Light’s status during his Monday morning news conference.
