According to Martinez's agent, it won't be.
"In the playoffs, Pedro was having fun again," said Fern Cuza to Fox Sports. "He was feeling no pain whatsoever. It was the first time in three years that he felt that way on the mound.
"Based on how he played, and how he responded, he's looking forward to playing next year."
Cuza added that unlike the 2009 season, in which Martinez joined the Phillies late in the season, the pitcher hopes to be with a team for spring training. The agent touted the 38-year-old's ability to still pitch at a high level.
"With the leadership he brings, and the way he approaches pitching, I think Pedro's realizing that he can be very effective in the big leagues without the 95-mile-an-hour fastball," Cuza said. "He can still get into the low 90s. With the location that he has, he can still be very effective."
In nine regular-season starts, Martinez went 5-1 with a 3.63 ERA, striking out 37 batters and walking eight. He made three starts for the Phillies in the postseason, going 0-2 with a 3.71 ERA.
