USC Upends Boston College 24-13 to Win Emerald Bowl Final, USC 24-13: BC didn't start the game well or end it well, and it resulted in an 11-point loss to USC.

USC proved its No. 24 ranking in the game by beating up on BC for the majority of the game. The Trojans offense was too much for the Eagles to handle, and in the end, turnovers did in BC.

Fourth quarter, 2:58, USC: That will do it for BC, as the 11-point lead is insurmountable at this point.

Fourth quarter, 4:42, USC 24-13: BC will have to work quickly, but the Eagles still have an outside chance to make it a game.

It's not likely, but it's possible.

Fourth quarter, 7:46, USC 24-13: The BC offense can't come up with any points on what was the most important drive of the game, and now the Eagles will need their defense to come up with yet another stop to keep the game in reach.

Fourth quarter, 11:53, USC 24-13: Instead of trying to put a drive together, BC tries to air it out downfield a few times and it leads to a turnover. On the very next play, USC makes them pay with a bomb to the BC 1.

Barkley punches it in, and USC has an 11-point lead.

Fourth quarter, 14:12, USC 17-13: A quick possession for BC and USC has another chance its lead or possibly to make it a two-possession game.

End of third quarter, USC 17-13: BC came up with yet another stop, but at some point the offense is going to have to do something if the Eagles are to win this game.

The BC defense has pulled a 180 from the first 18 minutes of the game, holding USC to just three points over the last 27 minutes.

Third quarter, 3:08, USC 17-13: USC drives down the field, but have nothing to show for it after a missed 35-yard field-goal attempt.

The rain was once again a factor on the missed field goal, and it has now had a major impact on the outcome of the game.

Third quarter, 7:01, USC 17-13: The rain is once again having an impact on the game as the sloppiness of the field has played into two turnovers and two strange kicks early on in the third quarter. The refs have also spent a lot of time under the hood during the game.

Third quarter, 9:08, USC 17-13: USC capitalizes on the turnover to come down the field and kick a field goal, extending their lead to 17-13.

Third quarter, 13:59, USC 14-13: And just like that BC wastes its chance to take its first lead of the game. A huge turnover for USC.

Third quarter, 14:49, USC 14-13: USC wastes their choice to defer at the beginning of the game with a pick to start the second half. BC in great position to take their first lead of the game.

Halftime, USC 14-13: The missed extra point is looming large now that BC is back in the game.

For the first 18 minutes of the game, BC looked like they didn't belong on the same field as USC. But over the last 12 minutes, that has been anything but the case.

BC has found way to break through the USC defense, and a way hold down Barkley and the offense to get back into the game.

USC will start with the ball in the second half, and it will be another opportunity for the BC defense to provide a stop.

Second quarter, 3:48, 14-13: It's been all BC for the last 12-plus minutes. Dave Shinskie finds Rich Gunnell across the middle for a 61-yard yard touchdown after a pass interference penalty kept the BC drive alive.

What looked like a blowout early on has turned back into a game at PNC Park. But the momentum is with BC right now. USC has 3:58 to get it back before halftime.

The earlier missed extra point from BC is the only difference in the game now.

Second quarter, 4:20, USC 14-6: Montel Harris has taken over the game offensively for BC, and his second efforts on runs have been the difference in the second quarter.

Second quarter, 7:23, USC 14-6: There's the first blemish on Barkley's game. A pick deep down the field for the first turnover of the game for either team.

Second quarter, 9:54, USC 14-6: BC uses the wheels of Montel Harris to get down the field and into the end zone, cutting USC's lead in half.

A nice statement drive for BC after being forced to punt on their first two possessions. It's going to be hard to run on USC that way all game with the adjustments they were certainly make, but for now BC has seemed to find a hole in the USC defense.

Second quarter, 12:36, USC 14-0: Matt Barkley is having his way with BC. The freshman is 12-for-13 with 154 yards and two touchdowns.

Things could get ugly quickly for the Eagles here. They are already starting to.

End of first quarter, 0:00, USC 7-0: USC methodically driving down the field again and showing no signs of letting up.

First quarter, 3:58, USC 7-0: The offense of BC was the team's biggest concern coming into the game against the offensive-minded Trojans and it has shown so far.

The Eagles punted again, and the Trojans have a chance to extend their lead. BC is going to need o trade punches with USC if they have any hopes of keeping it close.

First quarter, 6:01, USC 7-0: The rain isn't having the same negative impact on the USC offense the way it is on the BC offense.

Matt Barkley is 4-for-4 for 78 yards with a touchdown already and the Trojans have an early 7-0 lead.

First quarter, 10:04, 0-0: BC is unable to get on the board first after USC deferred the opening kickoff. But the Eagles were able to force the Trojans to start inside their own 10 on their first possession.

First quarter, 10:25, 0-0: BC putting together a nice little drive here after a pair of passes got them 36 yards. They could do without the Wildcat though.

First quarter, 14:13, 0-0: BC starts out at their own 26, but a false start and a two-yard loss on a run has them looking at second-and-17 from their own 19.

And now a timeout burned by the Eagles. Only a pick six or fumble on the kickoff would have made for a sloppier start.

7:53 p.m.: In the biggest news story of the day surrounding college football, Florida's Urban Meyer is stepping down as the head coach of Florida due to health concerns.

7:07 p.m.: According to ESPN.com sources, USC running back Joe McKnight is not expected to play against BC.

5:30 p.m.: The USC Trojans aren't where they usually find themselves when it comes to bowl season, but BC doesn't mind where it finished the season.

USC finds itself out of the BCS for the first time since 2001, while BC is happy to be playing in the Emerald Bowl in San Francisco.

On Saturday night, the ACC meets the Pac-10 to decide the Emerald Bowl champion for 2009.
