Headlines around the country early Thursday morning proclaimed that the Red Sox and Rangers have agreed to preliminary terms to send third baseman Mike Lowell to Texas for catcher Max Ramirez.

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels is saying "not so fast."

Daniels spoke to reporters on Thursday and stressed that no deal has been completed, according to MLB.com.

"I think some of the reports of how close it is might be a little bit overstated," Daniels said.

Those reports have varied greatly over the past 24 hours, with SI.com's Jon Heyman saying the deal was "better than 50-50" and others saying the deal was already done.

"I think there is always different layers to these things, but both clubs are kind of evaluating," Daniels said. "I think the general parameters are understood, but both clubs need to decide whether it's the right fit."

Daniels did not put a timetable on when he or the Red Sox would like to complete a deal, and he said that for him to say that Lowell would need to pass a physical for a deal to be completed would be "premature."

"I'll just say that the general parameters of the deal are relatively understood," Daniels explained. "Both clubs know what's on the table, and we'll continue to talk here and work through it."
