After Promising Monday Practice, Bruins Looking Forward to West Coast Trip Three defeats, two stars injured and one West Coast road trip isn’t the greatest way to kick off the New Year, but that’s where the Bruins are these days.

Things probably could be worse, but according to forward Mark Recchi, it’s not as bad it seems. And after a good practice on Monday after such a rough week, the veteran scorer says things are looking up for the Black and Gold, who hit the friendly skies for a three-game swing through the Golden State starting Wednesday.

Recchi, who had a goal and an assist last week, is looking forward to the California trip — and it’s not just due to the frigid New England weather. The veteran can’t wait to get back on the ice after such a rough showing on Saturday against the Rangers.

“It was great. Today was terrific for us,’’ Recchi told the Boston Globe. “It was real competitive, we worked on some things Coach believes we’ve got to get better at, and it was good. The guys were ready to go [Monday], heads were up.’’

The B’s are hoping to find some of last season’s spark — and keep it on a consistent basis. They showed promise against the Senators in their 4-1 win last week, but that victory was sandwiched between a pair of ugly losses to the Rangers and Blackhawks.

It seemed to be a typical week in the life of a Bruins Nation as Boston has continuously displayed a Jeckyll and Hyde persona. The Black and Gold seem to tease the hockey Hub with strong play only to fold in their next time out. When’s the last time the B’s have strung together a good week of puck? One winger thinks it’s turning psychological.

“We had a swagger about us that, any time there’s a loose puck, we weren’t going to lose it, just because we thought we were the best team on the ice every night,” winger Blake Wheeler added. “It was sort of a theme that we bought into, that everyone knew that the next guy was going to buy into that, and if you didn’t do it you were going to look bad.

“We’ve done it in spots this year, and when we did it we looked like the same team we were before,” he added. “When we didn’t do it, we’ve looked like not such a great team.”
