The most decorated American Winter Olympian in history seems ready to call it a career.

Speedskater Apolo Anton Ohno was widely expected to be contemplating retirement after the Vancouver Games, and his teammate Simon Cho confirmed the news via Twitter on Thursday night, according to Yahoo Sports.

The 27-year-old Ohno has won two gold medals in his Olympic career and has been on the podium seven total times. Two of those medals have come in Vancouver (bronze in the 1,000-meter race and silver in the 1,500 meters). Ohno will go for two more on Friday night, in the 500-meter event — which he won in Turin four years ago — and the 5,000-meter relay.

Cho, who will also race in the relay, wrote Thursday that he was “honored to be included in the last chapter of [Ohno’s] competitive skating career.”

It’s worth noting that Ohno has not yet commented on his own future plans, but rumors of him hanging up his skates have spread rapidly since the start of short-track competition in Vancouver.
