Former Patriots Tight End Ben Watson Signs With Cleveland Browns Ben Watson has signed a contract to join Eric Mangini and the Cleveland Browns. The team made the announcement on its official Web site, detailing that it is a "multi-year contract."

"Because of his athleticism and intelligence, he has proven valuable as both a receiver and blocker during his career, and has performed well in both facets," Browns GM Tom Heckert said in a statement. "He comes from a winning program in New England and possesses the traits that we like in a player."

In New England, the departure of Watson likely won't be viewed as a loss. The 29-year-old showed flashes of great athleticism, but he never became a go-to target for Tom Brady. Watson's two lasting memories of the franchise will be his 100-yard scamper to catch Champ Bailey on the 1-yard line in the 2005 playoffs in Denver and his two-touchdown performance in the 2009 season opener against the Bills.

Needless to say, the Patriots were probably hoping for more out of Watson when they selected him in the first round of the 2004 draft.

The Browns have also added linebacker Scott Fujita and tackle Tony Pashos in free agency this season.
