Whose MLB Debut Was More Impressive?

The long ball or the punch out — which component of America’s pastime wows today’s fan more?

Last week, the world was formally introduced to Nationals’ hurler Stephen Strasburg. The righty struck out 14 batters in his MLB debut against the Pirates and earned instant fame in doing so.

Over the weekend, just up the Atlantic coast in Boston, little-known outfielder Daniel Nava was a late call-up from Triple-A Pawtucket and made his MLB debut at the age of 27. Batting ninth, Nava dug into the box for his first career at-bat and spanked a grand slam into the bullpen on the very first pitch he saw.

Pessimists are attempting to belittle Strasburg’s debut, comparing the Pirates’ lineup to that of a small-town junior varsity squad. Nava, meanwhile, earned 100 percent of the critics’ votes as he smashed his first bomb off the two-time reigning NL champion Phillies and 64-game winner Joe Blanton.

So Charles in Dorchester wants to know, whose MLB debut was more impressive? Text ‘SOX1’ to 542542 for Daniel Nava or ‘SOX2’ to 542542 for Stephen Strasburg. Results will be revealed later in the show and you can view the latest results and vote at NESN.com/kgb.
