Laveranues Coles’ Return to Jets ‘A Strong Possibility’

Laveranues Coles can't seem to stay away from the Jets.

The Bengals cut him following a mediocre 2009, and the 10-year veteran wideout remains without a team. That may not last much longer, however, as "there is a strong possibility he will re-sign with the team that drafted him in 2000," the New York Post reports.

Signing Coles would add to New York’s suddenly fearsome receiving corps, which currently boasts Braylon Edwards and Santonio Holmes, and push quarterback-receiver hybrid Brad Smith (seven catches last year) down the depth chart. Coles also would significantly help early in the season, as Holmes will miss the first four games due to suspension.

Coles spent his first three seasons in the Meadowlands before being swapped for Santana Moss and landing in Washington. After two seasons as a Redskin, Coles returned to New York for four more years on the Jets before his one-year stint in Cincinnati.

The 30-year-old receiver had an unspectacular 2009, catching only 43 balls for 514 yards and five touchdowns. Coles hasn't topped 1,000 yards receiving since 2006 — as a member of the Jets — when he recorded 91 receptions for 1,098 yards and six touchdowns.
