Wes Welker's recovery is on track, but he's not quite ready to come back yet.

According to ESPN.com, the New England Patriots placed the star receiver on the active/physically unable to perform list on Tuesday, but that may not be such a bad thing.

Welker and his ACL still could be ready for camp, and if he's not, there's a silver lining. The Pats currently have a glut of wide receivers to evaluate on the roster after signing Tory Holt and David Patten this offseason, and Welker being out could make that easier.

The active/PUP list also differs from the reserve/PUP list in that players on the active/PUP do not have to miss games. Welker also can be activated at any time.
