Kevin Youkilis will get an MRI on his injured left thumb Tuesday morning, according to Red Sox manager Terry Francona.

Youkilis jammed his thumb on a soft liner to Indians shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera in the bottom of the first inning Monday night. Francona said the area around it "swelled up real quick" and there was plenty of discoloration, but an initial examination did not show any structural damage.

"He's pretty sore," Francona said.

The Sox skipper added that Youkilis already had a bone bruise in that area. His departure from the game forced Francona to install Kevin Cash behind the plate and move Victor Martinez to first, a move that left Cash, a .175 hitter, in the third spot in the lineup.
