Make that two straight weeks of second-half meltdowns for the Patriots defense.

The Pats were outscored 18-0 on Sunday in the third and fourth quarters after being outscored 21-14 in the second half of their Week 1 victory.

Strong safety Brandon Meriweather, who has lost playing time to six-year veteran James Sanders and second-year stud Patrick Chung, rarely sees the field when the Pats line up in their 3-4 scheme. He started Week 1 only because the team was playing in nickel formation.

But why has the Pro Bowler, who started every single game last season, been having a down year so far?

"I haven't been myself in practice," he told WEEI. "The coaches wanted to show me just because I went [to the Pro Bowl]. I still have to come and play. Basically, that was my fault that I'm not on the field as much."

"I was trying a lot of things in camp just to see if they worked. And they weren't," he added. "Instead of me stopping trying them and doing exactly what I was coached, I kept trying them."

Meriweather has just eight total tackles while Chung leads the way with 22.
