Report: Carmelo Anthony Still Considers New York Knicks First Choice

The chance that Carmelo Anthony leaves Denver before free agency increased drastically today with the report that the Denver Nuggets are now receptive to trade offers, and though New Jersey is reportedly making the biggest push, it isn't his top choice.

According to Chris Broussard, Carmelo still considers New York his top destination, though he is also considering the Nets, Lakers, Rockets and perhaps Bulls.

Anthony had asserted earlier this summer that he would potentially like to form a "super team" in the Big Apple featuring himself, Amare Stoudamire, and Chris Paul. Tony Parker was also linked to the rumor.

The Nuggets, though, will likely want a package of young players and draft picks in return for Anthony, and the Knicks may lack the ability to do such. They gave Houston the right to swap first-rounders in 2011, and they gave the Rockets their 2012 pick.

Anthony clearly wants to play in a big market, as only the nation's four largest cities are destinations that he has interest in.

While Anthony is under contract until 2011 and the Nuggets are not withdrawing his extension offer, sources are suggesting that he will be heading out of Denver sooner rather than later.
