Joe Torre doesn't seem like a man ready to retire.

In fact, he may want to go back to his beginnings as the next manager of the New York Mets, WFAN reports.

"That’s where it all started for me in ’77; it would really be weird," Torre said.

While he was noncommittal about the possibility, he surely left the door open.

"I have not had and nobody that I know of has had contact with anybody," Torre said when specifically asked about the idea of him managing the Mets. "I am curious. When the season is over, I hope the phone will be ringing."

Torre also made it clear that he isn't leaving Los Angeles because of old age.

"I was very frustrated by the ball club really spinning their wheels over the last year," he clarified. "I made up my mind about a month ago and let Donnie know how I was feeling, but I didn’t want to say anything until we were completely out of the race."

Despite the Mets missing the playoffs the past two seasons and suffering disastrous second-half collapses, Jerry Manuel has remained as manager. Many expect that to end after the season.

Still, Torre has no specific plans for the future.

"I made the announcement about not coming back to the Dodgers and I left the door open," Torre said. "I don’t really anticipate managing again, but I think it would be unfair not to listen just out of curiosity to see if something excites me. … I am not sure if something will intrigue me, but I am not shutting the door."
