The Bruins placed goalie Nolan Schaefer on waivers on Monday for the purpose of assigning him to Providence.
Schaefer played in seven games for the San Jose Sharks in 2005-06. Last season, he played 22 games in the KHL.
The 30-year-old netminder accompanied the Bruins to Europe but did not see any action.
