The Miami Heat announced Saturday that they have signed free agent swingman Jerry Stackhouse to a one-year contract.

The signing, which was announced on the team’s official Twitter page, comes just one day after Heat backup guard Mike Miller underwent surgery on his right thumb. Miller is expected to be out until January.

Best remembered by Heat fans for his flagrant foul on Shaquille O’Neal in Game 5 of the 2006 NBA Finals, Stackhouse has never won a championship in his 15-year career.  The two-time All Star is coming off a 2009-2010 campaign that saw him average 8.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 20.4 minutes per game with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Stackhouse will likely see limited minutes, but should get some playing time along with James Jones in Miller’s absence.

The terms of Stackhouse’s contract are unconfirmed, but rumored to be one year at the veteran’s minimum of $1.4 million.
