Texas Ranger Jeff Francoeur Glad to Play ‘Meaningful Baseball in New York’ After Playing For Mets

Texas Rangers right fielder Jeff Francoeur is happy to be back in New York, and even happier that he’s not playing in an orange and blue uniform.

Francoeur played for the Mets from 2009 through Aug. 31, 2010, before being traded to the Rangers for infielder Joaquin Arias.

After thanking Mets management for giving him the opportunity to play somewhere else, Francoeur told the New York Daily News something that might make Mets fans cringe.

“I always wanted to know what it was like to play meaningful baseball in New York, and I’m going to have the opportunity,” Francoeur said of playing the Yankees in the ALCS.

Francoeur played in two games in the first round against the Tampa Bay Rays, getting one RBI in eight at-bats, and his comments have led to speculation about what he actually meant. Some say that he was insulting the Mets for not playing well, while others think that he meant that the only meaningful games are playoff games and that he’s happy to be in the playoffs.

Frenchy says that he still talks to his former Mets teammates, and even had a phone conversation with now ex-manager Jerry Manuel.

But Francoeur still probably shouldn’t expect any Christmas cards from the Mets.
