The chance that free agent Derek Jeter signs with the New York Yankees has to be somewhere between 99.5 percent and 99.9 percent, but that doesn't mean a deal will come easy — at least not according to Hal Steinbrenner.

The Yankees' managing partner said on 1050 ESPN in New York that the Yankees "absolutely" want Jeter to remain in pinstripes, but that both sides would have to be happy with a deal.

"Both parties need to be happy with the deal, and that may make things more complicated, I don't know," Steinbrenner said. "There's always the possibility that things could get messy.

"We're running a business here," Steinbrenner added. "We have to remain somewhat objective and we're going to do that."

It's not exactly a very exciting start to the offseason for Yankee fans, but then again, it doesn't seem like any reason to panic.
