It's been an up-and-down professional career for Kirk MacDonald, but he's showing this season in Providence that he could play in the NHL someday soon.

Providence Bruins assistant coach Bruce Cassidy said recently that the forward's short-handed play and two-way style of play are valuable assets, but it's his leadership and the way he conducts himself that is most valuable.

"He's a type of guy that we want to take ownership of the locker room and those are the types of the players — the resilient, hard-to-play-against players — are the kind of guys that Boston wants, the type of identity that they want and we want," Cassidy told Adam Kaufman.

Cassidy also said that if given the opportunity, MacDonald could contribute at the NHL level as third or fourth line forward.
