The words "bridge year" have taken a life of their own in Red Sox Nation, but it's pretty safe to assume you won't hear anyone in the Boston front office muttering them again anytime soon.

Red Sox chairman Tom Werner went on WEEI on Wednesday and addressed the now infamous "bridge year" comment made by general manager Theo Epstein prior to the 2010 campaign.

"I want to assure everyone that there is no bridge year here this year," he said on The Big Show. "In 2011, we're committed to win. I think Theo would have been the first to say that he was excited about the prospects we had coming up through our system. I think he made a very rare mistake saying that. After that, we did sign Adrian Beltre. We did sign John Lackey. I think Theo would be the first to say it wasn't his finest Winston Churchill moment."

Werner went as far as to also say that the team is expecting to sign a "significant free agent," before the end of the 2010-11 offseason.
