Mathieu Valbuena's stint as a Liverpool target reaches well back into the Rafa Benitez era, and it appears that the club continues to be interested.

Roy Hodgson will be on hand at Wednesday's England-France friendly at Wembley — taking notes on the diminutive Frenchman.

The interest seems to be mutual. According to GiveMeFootball, Valbuena has made clear his desire to move to England.

"My dream is to play in the Premier League, by far the best league in the world. England is a nation where football was invented, and it shows," he said.

One of Valbuena's career highlights came at Anfield, when his strike for Marseille defeated the Reds 1-0 in the Champions League.

As far as the $11 million dollar (7 million pound) target goes, how he would fit into the squad remains a question.

Valbuena can play any attacking role in midfield, but he is neither a true forward nor a true wing player, and his size prevents him from adding much at the back. Still, he is undoubtedly a highly creative and plays with exceptional energy — two factors that could strongly bolster the often conservative Liverpool midfield.

Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier is also reportedly interested in the midfield wizard.
