Wade Phillips is on his way out of town and quarterback Tony Romo is likely done for the year thanks to an injury. The odds of the 1-7 team picking up a second victory — let alone make it to the Super Bowl at its own stadium in February — are growing slimmer by the hour.
But in yet another wild NFL season, these struggling Cowboys aren't even the biggest surprise this year — or are they?
The Raiders, who won just five games total last season, are off to a 5-3 start and have already knocked off the Chargers, Broncos and Chiefs. Joining the Black and Silver as surprising teams are the Browns — who after going winless in their first three contests, have improved to a 3-5 record thanks to upsetting wins over the reigning-champion Saints and top-ranked Patriots in back-to-back weekends.
Another interesting storyline thus far that fans wouldn't have foreseen in a million years has been Arian Foster leading the league in rushing yards. The Texans' running back has 864 yards on 157 touches to go with 10 touchdowns (nine rushing).
Although he missed a few games due to injury, Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has been playing like a Pro Bowler, as he has thrown for 1,017 yards and seven touchdowns while rushing for 261 and 2 TDs. The former Falcons play-caller has yet to be intercepted and owns a 105.3 QB rating. Not bad for someone who spent nearly two years in prison.
Randy Moss, a future Hall of Famer, has already donned two different uniforms this season — Patriots and Vikings — and he'll try on his new Titans jersey next weekend. While most fans in New England were expecting some drama this year out of Moss, nobody expected the wideout to be bounced around so much in the span of month.
