Saturday’s Arizona shooting spree that left Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords shot in the head, claimed the life of six victims, including Christina Taylor-Green, the granddaughter of legendary former Phillies manager Dallas Green and daughter of Dodgers scout John Green.
The nine-year-old, born on Sept. 11, 2001, was apparently on track to give up the family business of baseball in favor of politics.
“She was a good speaker. I could have easily seen her as a politician,” her father told the Arizona Daily Star.
“She was all about helping people, and being involved,” her mother said. “It’s so tragic. She went to learn today and then someone with so much hatred in their heart took the lives of innocent people.”
Dodgers owner Frank McCourt released a statement about the loss as well.
“We lost a member of the Dodgers family today. The entire Dodgers organization is mourning the death of John’s daughter Christina, and will do everything we can to support John, his wife Roxana and their son Dallas in the aftermath of this senseless tragedy. I spoke with John earlier today and expressed condolences on behalf of the entire Dodgers organization.”
Dallas Green, who won the 1980 World Series as Phillies manager, is now 76 years old and serves as an adviser to the Phillies.
Five others also lost their lives in the shooting.
Giffords remains in critical care.
