Lance Armstrong, US Cycling Facing Mounting Evidence of Doping

Add one more name to the list of athletes caught with their hands in the performance-enhancing cookie jar.

The most recent development comes from the cycling world, with SportsIllustrated.com reporting new evidence that Lance Armstrong and his former team were involved in doping throughout his incredible streak of seven consecutive Tour de France victories. The case against Armstrong is being pursued by the FDA, with Jeff Novitzky at the helm.

This would mean that one of the most accomplished cyclists on the planet has been nothing more than a mirage, fueled not with desire and the need to overcome adversity, but rather by benefiting from pharmaceutical concoctions throughout his entire career.

Armstrong’s story was especially moving, as he had defeated testicular cancer before conquering the Tour seven times. His background as a cancer survivor made him appear to be a god amongst men, but as the evidence continues to grow, the sad reality appears to be that none of it was authentic.

The article also includes testimony from recently busted teammates, Floyd Landis and Stephen Swart, who described several different occasions where they were nearly caught with PEDs. One such example was during a bag check in an airport, where, according to Landis, “Lance had a bag of drugs and s—.”

Armstrong has denied these allegations, somewhat angrily during a press conference in Australia, where he lashed out at a reporter asking about the story. Regardless of the outcome of the grand jury inquiry, his achievements will always be mired in doubt.
