Jason Garrett will be able to remove the interim tag from his job title.

The former offensive coordinator has been named head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, according to ESPN.com.

It's certainly not a stunning move, as Garrett has long been considered the successor to Wade Phillips. After the Cowboys' dreadful season in which the team went 6-10 and Phillips was fired midseason, however, there was at least some question as to whether Jerry Jones might want a complete change of staff.

That won't happen, though, as Garrett will work to build upon what he started when he took over as interim coach this year. He led the Cowboys to a 5-3 record with backup quarterback Jon Kitna taking the snaps, and he instituted a culture change that called for more professionalism and accountability from the players.

Garrett, 44, played for the Cowboys from 1993-99.
