Tom Brady Turns Down First Opportunity to Engage in Trash Talk With Jets

This should come as no surprise, but Patriots quarterback Tom Brady isn’t taking any bait when it comes to engaging in some trash talk with the New York Jets.

With Rex Ryan‘s backhanded jab at Brady last week and the several Jets players who said they were excited to get a chance to exact some revenge on the Pats after beating the Colts on Saturday, Brady was given the opportunity to respond Monday morning on WEEI’s Dennis and Callahan Show.

He politely declined.

“What really matters is what you do when the game starts,” Brady, always the politician, said. “We let our play do our talking.

“We’re gonna see who’s ready to play and we’re not gonna buy into all that,” Brady said of the pregame hype. “We’re gonna go out and prepare hard like we always do and get ready to play the game.”

Brady also said that New England’s 45-3 win over the Jets in December won’t really have an impact on the outcome of Sunday afternoon’s game.

“I don’t think it’s gonna have any bearing on what’s gonna happen this weekend,” he said. “The only thing you look at [from that game] is you say, ‘Look, we played them, this is how we match up. If we play well, we can beat ’em.'”

Brady also said on Dennis and Callahan that he was at the Broadway play “Lombardi” on Saturday night, so he missed the first half of the Jets-Colts game. He did say he caught the end of the game and that he was so fired up that he couldn’t fall asleep until 3 a.m. So while he may not be saying much in the media, you can at least get an idea of his emotions heading into his third matchup with the Jets this season.
