Yankees GM Brian Cashman Questions CC Sabathia's Offseason Weight Loss Apparently, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman doesn't feel that it's necessary to encourage his players.

ESPN.com has reported what could be another strike against the GM this offseason. Cashman has called into question the supposed 30-pound weight loss of his star pitcher, CC Sabathia.

Sabathia had knee surgery following the 2010 season and reports have indicated that he may have lost up to 30 pounds. But Cashman isn’t convinced.

"I don't believe it,'' Cashman said. "I saw him (last week) at the B.A.T. dinner and he didn't look like he lost 30 pounds to me. Maybe half that amount. We haven't weighed him so I don't know where that number comes from.''

Sabathia's weight has often come into question for the past few years. He is currently listed at 309 pounds, and almost every season, Yankees management advises Sabathia to lose weight.

Cashman said that as long as Sabathia is still able to perform, it isn't a grave concern.

"He obviously has worked very hard to rehab his knee and he's lost some weight, but he's still around 300 pounds,'' Cashman said."Clearly, he's a tremendous athlete and he can handle it , but it has to be managed so it doesn't become a problem. I just think 30 pounds would have been a lot more noticeable.''

Sabathia is due for a physical on Monday, which will confirm whether or not Cashman is good at guessing weight.
