Brent Johnson's one-and-done "fight" with Rick DiPietro on Wednesday night will be remembered for years to come — at least in the Johnson household. Meanwhile, DiPietro (if he even remembers the one-pop scuffle), will do everything he can to forget the embarrassing bout.
While Patrick Roy's famous Avalanche-Red Wings rivalry tussles take the cake when it comes to goalie fights, former Bruins netminder Byron Dafoe had a couple memorable bouts while guarding the pipes in Boston.
Dafoe, who manned the B's crease from 1997-2002, had a pair of fights in his NHL career, including one with his best friend (and best man at his wedding), Olaf Kolzig of the Capitals. The brouhaha started when Craig Berube took on Don Sweeney but escalated into a goalie fight when Dafoe stopped Dale Hunter from sneaking into the scrap, as seen below (the video also features a classic moment from the late, great Pat Burns).
Dafoe then dropped the glove, paddle and waffle-board three years later against the Senators, but this time around, there were no strings attached. Following a Hal Gill goal, the B's and Sens got into a scrap that included Bill Guerin throwing down (and holding his own) with brawler Chris Neil. Dafoe was mixing it up with Sens keeper Patrick Lalime faster than the goal judge could turn off the lamp and delivered some serious right-handed haymakers before the dust was settled, as seen below.
