After spending 13 years with one NHL organization, Tomas Kaberle said he experienced mixed emotions when he learned of his trade to the Boston Bruins. Nonetheless, this isn't the first time the veteran defenseman has been linked to black and gold, and with those emotions of sadness came excitement to play for a new organization.
Kaberle had just wrapped up his final practice with the Maple Leafs when he heard about his trade to Boston, and he said he was happy to be heading to a good organization that has postseason potential.
Soon after hearing about the new trade, Kaberle heard from one of his new teammates, Mark Recchi. The assistant captain sent a text welcoming his new teammate, and said he hoped that Kaberle could join them in Ottawa.
Recchi's wish came true, as Kaberle joined the B's at Scotiabank Place to kick off their five-game road trip in Canada, which concludes in Ottawa on Mar. 1.
