A hot commodity in the transfer market last summer, Sergio Canales chose to move to Real Madrid over a long list of other suitors.

Now, his stint at the Bernabeu may be coming to an abrupt end, as Jose Mourinho and the 20-year-old attacking midfielder are reportedly at odds, according to Spanish publication Sport.

Canales, who has appeared just seven times thus far Los Blancos, was apparently subject of a transfer bid from Liverpool this January, but he instead chose to continue to attempt to crack Mourinho's first team.

"During January I had options to move to England, but I want to repay Mourinho and the club's trust in me," said Canales.

"I don't regret moving to Real Madrid and I knew that this first year would be tough. It's not great when I'm not in the squad but I want to show what I can do on the pitch."

Now, however, that prospect seems less likely, and Liverpool is expected to return with another bid come summer. According to the Spanish report, Mourinho will be asking for £6 million for Canales.

Canales has yet to be capped for Spain's senior squad, but he has scored twice in four appearances since being called up to the Under-21 team in 2010. See his highlights below.
